Our surfing trips are designed primarily for intermediate and experienced surfers seeking an adventurous and rewarding ocean experience. However, adventurous beginners are also welcome to join. We offer three distinct trip categories and carefully place surfers according to their skill level when organizing each trip. This allows us to create balanced groups and ensure everyone gets the most out of their time in the water.

Your essential gear includes skis, splitboards, boots, poles, and avalanche safety equipment. We offer convenient rental options through trusted partners located in Tromsø, allowing you to access high-quality equipment without the hassle of transporting everything yourself. If you prefer to bring your own gear, that is always encouraged, as it ensures familiarity and comfort during your trip. Airlines are generally accommodating with sporting equipment nowadays, making travel with your own skis or boards easier than before. At Magnetic North Expeditions, all ski tours are led by experienced guides who possess thorough knowledge of local conditions, snow safety, and terrain to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Every guest is required to have the essential avalanche safety equipment, including a probe, spade, and transceiver. If you do not own this equipment, it can be conveniently rented upon arrival. Additionally, if you are unfamiliar with using avalanche safety gear, we strongly encourage you to watch our instructional materials prior to your tour to ensure you understand how to operate the equipment effectively. Your safety is our top priority throughout your expedition.

During your expedition, you will stay aboard a spacious 50 foot Leopard catamaran, specifically designed to offer both comfort and functionality in cold-weather environments. The vessel features well-appointed communal and private areas, allowing for relaxation and socializing between excursions. After hiutting the mountains, guests can unwind and warm up in the onboard sauna. All meals and non-alcoholic beverages are provided, enabling a hassle-free experience focused entirely on discovery and enjoyment. Additionally, each trip is led by an expert guide who ensures a safe, educational, and immersive expedition tailored to your interests. This combination of comfortable accommodations, nourishing provisions, and professional guidance creates a uniquely enriching arctic adventure.

Arctic snow conditions vary dramatically throughout the season due to the mountains being so close to the ocean. That being said, generally we have very good snow conditions, powder, and perfect grain snow superior to that of many other ski destinations such as the French, Swiss, and Austrian Alps. Our experienced guides closely monitor daily snow and avalanche forecasts to plan optimal ski routes that prioritize both safety and experience. While there will always be snow on the ground, the quality can from fresh, powder to icy layers and hard pack at times. Our team is prepared to navigate these varying conditions, ensuring you enjoy the best possible experience regardless of the snow quality encountered.

We will send you a thorough packing list prior to you trip. For your expedition, we highly recommend and appreciate if you pack your belongings in duffle bags rather than large hardcase suitcases. Duffle bags are easier to stow and keep the boat organized. Regarding clothing, it is essential to bring warm base layers and insulated jackets suitable for cold weather conditions. Waterproof outer layers are important to stay dry in changing environments. Additionally, pack skiing socks, gloves, a beanie, and sunglasses or goggles to protect against sun glare and wind. If you plan to ski and prefer not to rent, please bring your own ski backpack and ski gear to ensure you have all necessary equipment. Following these guidelines helps you stay prepared and maximizes your comfort throughout.
