Catamaran anchored in a Norwegian fjord at sunset with snowy peaks

Arctic Winter & Spring · October — End of April

Spirit of Shackleton

Discover what you're truly capable of — in the same spirit that brought Shackleton's entire crew home alive.

6 nights · 7 days · From Tromsø · 6–8 guests · Oct–April

A winter week in the Lyngen Alps and the fjords beyond Skjervøy, aboard a heated catamaran that carries you to anchorages no road can reach. This is not a cruise and not a survival ordeal. It is a slow, deliberate build — from your first steps on snow to a night you spend in a shelter you helped carve from it.

How the week builds

A ladder, not a checklist.

The week is built as a ladder, not a checklist. Each day adds a skill to the last, so that what feels impossible on Monday feels natural by Friday.

  1. Day 01

    Arrive

Board, settle, and sail into the fjords as the crew establishes the rhythm of the week.

  2. Day 02

    Foundation

First snowshoe travel and your first, optional cold-water immersion under close guidance.

  3. Day 03

    Build

Mountain travel with avalanche awareness, then a beach sauna and open-fire dinner on a remote shore.

  4. Day 04

    The sky

When the aurora forecast turns strong, everything pivots to capture it properly, camera in hand.

  5. Day 05

    The challenge

Everything you've learned, combined: build a snow shelter and spend the night in it, if you choose.

  6. Day 06

    Recover

A slow day. Fishing, an optional dog-sled excursion, sauna, and quiet.

  7. Day 07

    Return

An unhurried sail back to Tromsø, sharing photographs and the week just lived.

Weather writes the final draft. The route stays responsive to conditions, ice and the aurora forecast — the experiences are fixed, the exact order is not.

Signature moments

What the week is made of.

Aurora borealis over a snow-covered peak

Aurora, properly hunted

Not glimpsed from a bus window, but chased with time, patience and a guide on your camera settings.

Arctic tent lit at night

A night in the snow

Carve a shelter, light a fire, and sleep in the winter you were taught to read. Fully optional; the boat waits nearby.

Wood-fired sauna tent overlooking a frozen fjord

Sauna and sea

Steam on a remote beach, then the clean shock of the Arctic, then warmth again within minutes.

Guest holding a large halibut at dusk on the fjord

Catch to plate

Fish the fjord, fillet your catch, and watch it become dinner.

Ski-tourers ascending a snowy couloir under headlamps at dusk

Into the mountains

Snowshoe routes chosen for their views and their safety, read by guides every single day.

Pan-seared halibut with peas, plated on board

Nights under the storm

When the weather closes in, the boat becomes a lantern in the dark — warmth, food, and quiet company.

Made for mixed groups

Every day has a fuller version and a gentler one.

Come as you are. Every day offers a fuller version and a gentler one — a longer summit or a shorter loop, a full cold plunge or a warm seat by the fire, a night in the shelter or a night in your cabin. No one is left out and no one is pushed past their edge. The heated catamaran is never more than a short distance away, and the crew reads the group every morning to shape the day around it. Couples of different fitness, families with teenagers, and solo travellers all share the same week — each meeting it on their own terms.

The vessel as basecamp

A heated, mobile centre to the wild.

Home for the week is a 2024 Lagoon 51 catamaran — heated, comfortable, and quietly capable. It carries you to fjords with no road in, then becomes the warm centre you return to each evening.
